In the third century Cormac Mac Art made himself High King of Ireland and established the seat of High Kings of Tara. It remained the residence of the High Kings until the sixth century, when, according to legend, in consequence of a dispute between the King an St. Ruadhan, the saint cursed Tara and the Royal seat was deserted never to be reestablished.
